Hotel and Airline Points for Cruises

Most hotel and airline programs do not sell cruises. But two connections exist, and almost every cruiser can use these points for the parts of the trip around the ship: the flight to the port and the hotel the night before.

Programs With a Direct Cruise Link

Marriott Bonvoy and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

The yacht line’s Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection loyalty page describes earning and redeeming Marriott Bonvoy points on its voyages. Check the current redemption rules and blackout terms there.

Virgin Red and Virgin Voyages

Virgin Points, collected through Virgin Red, have been offered toward Virgin Voyages sailings and onboard extras. Availability and points prices change, so look up the current rewards in Virgin Red.

Line loyalty programs sometimes partner with hotels or casinos too; Frequent Cruiser Program explains status matching.

Airline Miles: Pay for the Flight

Airline miles rarely buy a cabin, but they are ideal for getting to the ship. Use them on a flight that lands the day before embarkation, so a delay does not cost you the cruise. Our sister site Cruise Airfare explains how to time cruise flights, which airports serve which ports, and what to do if a flight is cancelled.

Award seats on popular routes go early, so start looking as soon as your cruise is booked.

Hotel Points: The Night Before You Sail

A free pre-cruise night is one of the simplest rewards wins. Look for hotels near the port or airport that offer a shuttle, or a park-and-cruise package if you are driving. Free Cruise Parking covers port parking and hotel packages for the main U.S. homeports. Book early: embarkation weekends fill hotels near busy ports.

Not financial advice. We describe how rewards programs work in general. Program rules, eligible cards and redemption values change; always read the current terms from the bank, hotel, airline, casino or cruise line before you rely on them.

Timing Your Award Bookings

Book the cruise first, then the flights and hotel. Once your sailing is confirmed, search for award seats on flights that arrive the day before embarkation, and look for a hotel night near the port or the airport. Award availability on popular weekends can disappear months ahead, so do not wait for final payment. If your plans change, find out in advance how each program handles cancellations: many hotel award nights can be cancelled up to a deadline, while some airline awards carry fees.

After the cruise, consider using points for a post-cruise night as well, especially if your ship arrives early and your flight leaves late, or if you want a day in the port city before heading home.
